Kestrels are most easily distinguished by their typical hunting behaviour which is to hover at a height of around 10–20 metres (33–66 ft) over open country and swoop down on prey. Kestrel plumage differs between male and female, and the female is slightly larger than the male. This allows a pair to fill different feeding niches over their home range.

Are Moles making a mess of your yard? Do not waste your money buying expensive poison that needs to be applied way to often costing $$$$ and can harm neighborhood kids and pets. During our nature photo shoot at East Tawas Birding festival this weekend we learned of an easy solution to those pesky moles. Did you know? - One American Kestrel will consume 900 rodents a year. - One Eastern Screech Owl will consume 800 small rodents a year. - One Northern Saw Whet owl will consume 700 mice a year. So how do you get them to visit your yard and start the mole reduction process. You build a Nest Box. Please share with all of your mole invaded neighbors. Let nature be part of your yard and the mole reduction process. http://www.wingsofwonder.org/assets/WOW_NestBoxPlan.pdf
