My time with the elk in the Northern part of Michigan, was met with a smile. Given that the elk herd has members that weigh up to 900 pounds I was happy they accepted me as one of their own, as I am afraid I would not be able to out run them if they decided to charge. These are amazingly beautiful animals, that welcomed me and my camera into the herd as a curiosity. I was careful to keep my distance and the longer I stayed with them in a non threatening manner the closer they came to me. Several times I was close enough to feel their breath.
