Site of the Liberty Engine Company #1. Founded 1863 as "Silver Bar Hook and Ladder Company #1 of Gold Hill Nevada Territory. Reorganized 1864 as Liberty Engine Company #1. Active in fighting fires for 90 years. The company's mottos was "Faithful and Fearless".
Building collapsed under record-breaking snowsfall of January 1952 damaging historic fire carts. Original bell tower preserved and this marker erected by a third generation of volunteers who honor those who have gone before.
Monument erected through popular subscription by Storey County Volunteer Fire Department May 30, 1954.
