Description
Lake Tahoe Sugar Pine Point Light
In 1921, local interests lobbied that the light marking Rubicon Point be moved to nearby Sugar Pine Point - "it is proposed to establish it on a small frame tower on the outer end of Sugar Pine Point...the light to operate on its present characteristic and without other change. (Recommendation as to Aids to Navigation, May 1921). In 1935, the light was discontinued - only to be relit the following year at a cost of $590.52. Today, the point is marked by a modern optic. The navigational aid stands on the grounds of Sugar Pine Point State Park - where the park brochure describes it as "the world's highest working lighthouse.
